Red5 Mail

Red5 Mail is a web based Email client I have built using PHP as the Server back-end and a browser based front-end using the excellent Ext JS Javascript Framework.

I had several reason for building Red5 Mail:

To learn PHP as a language and technology on the server.
To learn Javascript as a language and technology in the browser.
A need for a better web based Email client than the rather unattractive offerings provided by the web hosting company I host my site with.
Just for the fun of it.

The demo can be viewed at Red5 Mail Demo. The login details are as follows:

Username: demo@.nbred5.com

Password: nbdemo

You send mail to the Inbox using the email address demo@demo.nbred5.com you cannot send mail from the demo as I don't want loads of spam originating from the server.

Some of the functionality uses Google Gears as a local store, the demo will detect whether you have Gears installed and ask whether you wish to install it, or use the demo with reduced functionality.

Update

Due to issues with the Mail Server software used by the web hosting provider I have updated to being a GMail Client (Google Mail in the UK), so the server backend now communicates with GMail via IMAP.

Although I have given a demo account above you can in fact log into any GMail account, and if not using the demo account you will be able to send Email as well as it will be sent as if from your account.
